Description: This SLS addresses the following problems:

1. The FTP daemon, /usr/sbin/ftpd (based on WU-FTPD), has a security
vulnerability that can allow unprivileged users to obtain root
access through use of the "site exec" command. This vulnerability
is described in CERT advisory CA-2000-13 (see http://www.cert.org).
2. An associated segmentation violation in /usr/bin/ftp occurred.
3. An exploitable buffer overflow in "rcp" that can lead to access to
    kernel memory.
4. An exploitable buffer overflow in "telnet", "talk", "otalk" and
"ftp" than can lead to raised privileges.

For: UnixWare 7.0.0 - 7.1.1
            Date posted: 11-AUG-00
Description: This SLS addresses the following issue:
When the pattern file named in a "-f" option is actually a pipe,
it is possible for the grep or egrep command to fail to read all
of the specified patterns, that is, it might read some, all, or

For: UnixWare 7.0.0 - 7.1.1
            Date posted: 15-JUN-00
Description: This SLS addresses the following problems:
 - The predefined number register "yr" is documented as being the
last two digits of the year, whereas it was actually the year 1900.
Thus, the year 2000's value is shown as 100 rather than the expected
              0.
 - The mm macro package's predefined date string "DT" was returning
something similar to "January 1, 1900" instead of the expected "January
1, 2000". Similar problems with the me macro package ("td" string)

  SLS ptf7646b: lp Driver Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.0.1. - 7.1.1
            Date posted: 24-JUL-00
Description: This SLS addresses all of the problems listed below.

1. The lp driver stops responding if a process that is writing
   to it is killed.
2. Printing via the parallel port is extremely slow. (This is especially
known to occur on some Compaq systems.)
There is a timing issue between the response from some printers
on the parallel port and the retry wait loop code. This causes
the printer to go into a wait after each character is printed.
This has been resolved by creating a configurable wait tunable,
lp_parallel_wait, which is present in a new lp space.c. This allows
the tuning of a wait time before going into the retry wait loop.

The value of lp_parallel_wait can range from 80 to 1000000 (one second).
It will be necessary to experiment with this value to restore normal
   printing speed.

  SLS ptf7645b: ipc Driver Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.1
            Date posted: 19-AUG-00
Description: This SLS addresses the following problem:
ipcs -qa sets the message queue to R, but once msgrcv is completed,
the flag is not reset. Thus, ipcs -qa may not show a true representation
              of the message queues.
msgrcv() sets the MSG_RWAIT flag when a message receiver waits
for a message. However, the driver never clears this flag. SLS ptf7645b
clears the MSG_RWAIT bit in the msgsnd and wakes up all the processes
sleeping on the message queue. Also, if a process sleeping in msgrcv()
gets interrupted, SLS ptf7645b clears the bit and signals all the
processes waiting on the message queue to retry.

  SLS ptf7640a: vxslicer Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.0, and 7.1.1
            Date posted: 25-SEP-01
Description: This SLS addresses the following problem:
 1. The root disk cannot be encapsulated due to a gap between dump
and swap. The gap is created during a previous attempt to encapsulate
the root drive, and results from the use of swap as a temporary
working area during encapsulation. If the swap is large enough,
the end track lies beyond the 2GB limit from the start of the encapsulation
area. Since vxslicer is not large file capable, this can result
              in transfer errors.

SLS ptf7629a: Symbios 53c8xx PCI SCSI HBA
            Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.1
            Date posted: 31-JUL-00
Description: This SLS addresses these problems for UnixWare 7.1.1:

1. The timeout value received from the OS for each command is now
in seconds, rather than in milliseconds. This required removal
of a divide by 1000, since the driver times out commands based
    upon a seconds value.
2. A small routine, c8xx_continueq, was removed due to it being
identical to routine c8xx_resumeq. All calls to c8xx_continueq
    were changed to c8xx_resumeq.
3. During initialization, device scan was changed from polling for
command completion to using callback routines.
4. Changes were made to properly detect and access Non-Volatile
Storage (NVS) without having to loop through the resmgr entries.
The driver now generates a resmgr entry for the NVS physical
address, so that the virtual address can be mapped, the NVS data
retrieved, and then the resmgr entry that was generated, deleted.
This is done only once for each host adapter during initialization.
The data is saved for future access.

For: UnixWare 7.1.0, 7.1.1
            Date posted: 01-AUG-00
Description: This SLS addresses the following problem:
Attempting 'cpio - p' on a large file can result in mmap() consuming
all the physical memory, forcing the system to begin swapping and
              forcing ReliantHA to fail over.

  SLS ptf7607e: libc Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.1
            Date posted: 06-NOV-00
Description: This SLS corrects all of the problems listed below.

SLS ptf7607a addressed this issue:
1. Previously, the Unix98 pty support routines could not allow more than
999 ptys to be allocated by a user process. The pt.c functions have
been enhanced to support up to 99999 ptys.
SLS ptf7607c included the ability to do a quiet install, and addressed
these issues:
2. When logging into accounts that are configured with "Force the user to
change the password at the next login", a login to these accounts was
not possible if the ttymon were configured with PPP support (-P option
   to ttyadm).
3. A ksh93 pattern expansion bug existed.
4. Incoming baud rates of 115KB were not being handled correctly by ttymon.
5. ecvt, ecvtl, fcvt and gcvt had rounding errors in libc.
SLS ptf7607d addressed this issue:
6. select(3) can return 0 on a blocking call if poll(2) reports POLLHUP
and rd/wr fdsets are not set.
SLS ptf7607e additionally addresses these issues:
7. Installation of Oracle 8i (8.1.6) can fail (core dump) when set71101g,
the SCO UnixWare Maintenance Set, or the standalone SLS ptf7607d,
(which is included in set71101g) is installed on the system. Also,
in a post Oracle 8i (8.1.6) installation environment, Oracle processes
   can core dump.
8. A UNIX 95 Test failure introduced by the (e,f,g)cvt() in ptf7607b
   existed.

            Date posted: 27-JUL-01
Description: This SLS addresses the following issues:

  SLS ptf7448a: ipc Driver Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 01-SEP-00
Description: The ipcs utility prints information about active
inter-process communication (IPC) facilities. IPC mechanisms in
UnixWare are message queues, semaphores and shared-memory segments.
Support Level Supplement (SLS) ptf7448a, the UnixWare 7.1.0 ipc
Driver Supplement, addresses the following problem:
ipcs -qa sets the message queue to R, but once msgrcv is completed,
the flag is not reset. Thus, ipcs -qa may not show a true representation
              of the message queues.
msgrcv() sets the MSG_RWAIT flag when a message receiver waits
for a message. However, the driver never clears this flag. SLS ptf7448a
clears the MSG_RWAIT bit in the msgsnd and wakes up all the processes
sleeping on the message queue. Also, if a process sleeping in msgrcv()
gets interrupted, SLS ptf7448a clears the bit and signals all the
processes waiting on the message queue to retry.

  SLS ptf7441e: libmas Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.1
            Date posted: 03-OCT-00
 Description:
This SLS the libmas supplement, contains modifications to the
libmas library. It now uses strerror() rather than sys_nerr/sys_errlist.
 SLS ptf7441e addresses this problem:
libmas.so used the obsolete sys_nerr/sys_errlist mechanism rather
than the modern and internationalized strerror(). sys_nerr/sys_errlist
is only defined in the archive part of libc (/usr/ccs/lib/libc.so)
and not in the dynamic part of libc (/usr/lib/libc.so.1).
As a result it is not visible to dynamic libraries that have been
dlopen'd, which is the case with Java native methods.
Note: This supplement has been superseded by the UnixWare
              7.1.1 Maintenance Pack
  SLS ptf7440a: ReliantHA MSW Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.0.0 - 7.1.1
            Date posted: 03-DEC-99
Description: This SLS corrects the problem of the MSW system failing
to de-initialize correctly, which can result in a machine hang during
              shutdown.
The problem is caused by improper de-allocation of resources within
the MSW subsystem. The machine hang will only occur if the MSW/SDL
              drivers have been configured.
With SLS ptf7440a, the two binaries have been modified to de-configure
the MSW and SDL drivers. A new -d option has been added to sdlconfig.
The mswconfig changes employ the existing -u option to de-configure
correctly. A new rc script, K67msw, is provided to the de-configured
              MSW upon each machine shutdown.

SLS ptf7439e: s5, sfs, memfs, and vxfs Driver
            Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 14-AUG-00
Description: This SLS addresses all of the issues listed below.

1. Some actions can consume the whole of memory, forcing the system to
   start swapping.
2. The ls command locks on memfs.
3. A security issue in the usage of /tmp involving linking or symbolic
linking of well-known temporary filenames to critical system files
is fixed. The fix is implemented as additional restrictions on link,
rename (mv) and symbolic linking on directories that have the sticky
   bit set.
4. VxFS caused a kma paranoid panic due to not checking for vnode
   softcounts before kmem_free()ing the vx_biginode.
5. Incorrect KMA buffer references occur after kernel memory has
   been freed in memfs.
6. A problem was found in the vx_rename1() routine of the VxFS driver
   that caused a kernel panic.
7. Unmounting a vxfs snapshot volume fails to update the volume status,
   preventing removal of that volume.
8. The kernel panics when trying to create a vxfs snapshot in which
either target or destination device (or both) is a disk slice (and
   not an ODM volume).

  SLS ptf7425b: UnixWare Install Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 16-JUL-99
Description: This SLS provides fixed drivers that are required
              during installation on certain systems.

SLS ptf7425b corrects these problems:
1. If an HBA driver uses a maximum transfer size that is less than 128KB,
the installation will fail (for example, an IBM "ips" driver supporting
   the IBM ServeRAID HBA).
Note: SLSs ptf7406b (or later), the UnixWare 7.1.0 Pentium II and
Pentium III Supplement, and ptf7413e (or later), the UnixWare 7.1.0
VM Subsystem Supplement, are additionally required to resolve this
   issue.
2. A memory address conflict between a device and the "pcic" memory address
range of d0000 to dffff results in a red screen at the end of system
installation. This screen reports the memory conflict and the failure
   of the kernel relink.
3. The Symbios C8xx driver incorrectly loads on port 1 of the Compaq 64-Bit
Dual Channel Wide Ultra2 SCSI controller.
Note: SLS ptf7428d is additionally required to resolve this issue.
Note that for SLS ptf7428d to be effective, the Compaq system ROM
must include support for the Ultra2 SCSI controller, so that it
will be properly initialized with a differentiating signature and
correctly excluded by the c8xx driver. If needed, the latest system
ROM can be downloaded in the form of a ROMPaq from the Compaq web site.
Additionally fixed in SLS ptf7425b:
4. Installing a system with a Mylex HBA using ptf7425a aborts.
5. A page fault PANIC results when trying to boot UnixWare 7.1.0 on some
   Intel machines.
Note: SLS ptf7428d is additionally required to resolve these two issues.

  SLS ptf7423a: ttymon Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 16-JUL-99
Description: This SLS contains modifications to address the problem
where logging in over a modem using cu(1bnu) fails when the port
is configured for bidirectional (incoming and outgoing) use.

SLS ptf7421c: vtoc and disksetup Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 22-JUN-00
Description: This SLS contains modifications to address all of
              the issues included below.

1. The BIOS disk geometry for a second disk is ignored and always set
to 64 heads and 32 sectors.
    To demonstrate this:
      - Find the parameters for the second disk from the boot prompt
        using 'show HDPARM1'.
      - Add the second disk using diskadd(1M).
      - Display the disk parameters using 'prtvtoc -p /dev/rdsk/...'.
Note that the parameters displayed are different from those displayed
    at boot.
2. It is not possible to read or make filesystems on hard disks, or
optical disks, with a sector size greater than 512 bytes.
3. A potential kernel address fault in sd01 is fixed.
SLS ptf7421c applies to all supported disk drive types (such as SCSI, IDE,
as well as others).

SLS ptf7420c: ktli and nfs Drivers Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 21-OCT-99
Description: This SLS addresses these issues:

1. A threaded application that uses NFS can experience functions
failing unexpectedly with EINTR. In this case, truss will show the
    system call failing with ERESTART.
A new /etc/conf/pack.d/ktli/space.c tunable is provided by ptf7420:
        int ktli_sig_ignore[] = { SIGWAITING,
                                                0
                                        };
'ktli_sig_ignore' is a list of signals that, when mounted with
'-o intr', are prevented from interrupting an NFS transaction.
If ktli_sig_ignore[0] is 0, then all current enabled signals are
allowed to interrupt the NFS transaction.
2. A program that is being run from an NFS-mounted directory can
core dump due to receiving a SIGBUS signal.
A new /etc/conf/pack.d/nfs/space.c tunable is provided by ptf7420c:
        /*
         * Disable signals during fault handling.
         */
        int     nfs_max_gp_retry_time = 0;
A non-zero setting will act as a retry time (in seconds) that will be
used when trying to fault in a page across NFS, if the original attempt
was interrupted by a signal. As a default, SLS ptf7420c will set this
    retry time to two seconds.

SLS ptf7420c will tune RECVRETRIES by checking the current value and
increasing it to four if appropriate. (In the previous version of this
SLS, this step required manual tuning.)
If core dumps persist, it may then be necessary to manually increase
    the value:
        /etc/conf/bin/idtune RECVRETRIES 5
3. SLS ptf7420c addresses an installation problem found with ptf7420b that
    some users may have experienced.

            Driver Update

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 17-JUL-99
Description: This SLS addresses these problems:

   - Building KMA_PARANOID shows data corruption in SDI, sd0.
(ptf7418 is also needed for a complete solution to this problem.)
   - Tape I/O does not time out.

SLS ptf7418c: mpio, sysdump and sd01 Driver
            Update

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 30-JUN-00
Description: This SLS addresses all of the following problems.

1. The system hangs during failover testing.
2. sd01Reserve in sd01.c reserves the wrong disk.
3. The system hangs during MPIO dual path failover test.
4. The system hangs while attempting a system dump on UnixWare 7.1.0.
5. Building KMA_PARANOID results in data corruption in SDI and sd0.
(SLS ptf7419c or later is also needed for a complete solution to
    this problem).
6. A memory leak occurs related to vtoc open.
7. Emergency recovery disks cannot be created after ptf7036c is applied.
8. sd01strat1() does not recognize retry code. Therefore, if an HBA
fails to assign memory, sdi_xtranslate() returns SDI_RET_RETRY and
    can cause a system hang.
9. sd01getalts() was amended to prevent kernel memory abuse.

  SLS ptf7411b: passwd Display Patch

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 22-DEC-99
Description: This SLS addresses a problem where passwd -sa displays
incorrect information about the status of passwords. For example,
passwd -sa may list users as locked (LK) when they are unlocked.
SLS ptf7411b also provides a new passwd binary to address a problem
with ttymon when logging into accounts that are configured with
"Force the user to change the password at the next login". A login
to these accounts is not possible if the ttymon is configured with
PPP support (-P option to ttyadm). For example, this message will
              repeatedly occur:

 SLS ptf7410j: libthread Supplement
For: UnixWare 7.1.1
 Date posted: 18-FEB-03
Description: This SLS contains modifications to several issues.
See the cover letter for complete details.
NOTE: ptf7410j has been removed and is superseded by UnixWare
              7.1.1 Maintenance Pack 5
  SLS ptf7408e: Security Fix

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 17-DEC-99
Description: This SLS addressed these issues:

1. Unnecessary privileges are given to some packaging commands that allow
users to compromise system security by adding or removing privileged
   files.
2. Users can use packaging tools to read restricted system files.
3. Users can create arbitrary root owned directories.
4. A potential buffer overflow attack exists.
5. Slow booting occurs on systems where disks and other devices share the
   same controller.
6. sdighost -r does not remove ghosts permanently.
7. The checking of incompatibility definitions specified in 'depend' files
was previously performed only for the package being installed. This SLS
extends this process to include re-checking of the 'depend' definitions
for packages already installed on the system. Any packages declaring an
incompatibility with the package being installed will cause the
   installation to be terminated.
These changes in "checking flags" are included:
   - Added the 'S' flag (Supersedes) to support superseding packages.
   - Added the 'X' flag (eXcludes) to support genuinely incompatible
packages. That is, the presence of a package declaring this flag
will prevent the corresponding package being installed, regardless
of the dependencies specified in that package. The 'X' flag allows
new incompatibilities with released packages to be managed effectively.
   - Restored the original 'I' flag behaviors for packages other than
     PTFs.
8. After installing SLS ptf7408b or ptf7408c, it is no longer possible to
install packages from tape devices. Errors similar to this may be
displayed from a command such as pkgadd -d /dev/rmt/ctape1:
UX:pkginstall: ERROR: attempt to process package fromfailed
  - process/dev/null> failed, exit code 3
UX:pkginstall: ERROR: unable to unpack datastream
9. sdighost -r [see sdighost(1M)] does not permanently remove the names of
disks in the sdi database that do not correspond to any physical disks
on the system ('phantom' disks). This is achieved by removing unwanted
"vtoc" entries from the resmgr database and updating the configuration
regardless of whether there are any ghost disks or not.

  SLS ptf7407c: crash Utility Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.0.0 - 7.1.1
            Date posted: 04-AUG-00
Description: This SLS addresses all of the issues listed below.

SLS ptf7407a addressed this issue:
1. crash commands are easily mistyped, and had to be retyped in full.
The crash provided in ptf7407a supports command line editing,
using a history of previous crash commands, in the same manner
   as Korn shell ksh.
The history of the previous 128 commands is kept in memory. There
is no crash history file, so commands are not remembered from one
invocation to another. The editor allows the user to step or search
through previous commands, but there is no "history" command, no "r"
command to repeat the last, and the commands are not numbered.
By default, the simulated editor is "vi". If the environment variable
VISUAL or EDITOR is set to the pathname of editor "emacs" or "gmacs",
then that editor is simulated instead. If the environment variable
VISUAL or EDITOR is set to "none", then command line editing is
   disabled.
SLS ptf7407b addressed these issues:
2. Different releases of UnixWare 7 each have required a different
version of the crash utility. Virtual Memory Supplements ptf7016
(for UnixWare 7) and ptf7096 (for UnixWare 7.0.1) have required
further variants of the crash utility. The In-Kernel Sockets Supplement,
ptf7401 (for UnixWare 7.1.0), and the Pentium II and III Supplement,
ptf7406 (for UnixWare 7.1.0), should be accompanied by enhancements to
the crash utility in order to note sockets in "stream -f", to disassemble
   new instructions in "dis".
SLS ptf7407b supported all those releases and supplements with a single
version of /usr/sbin/crash, which may be reliably used on any of those
systems, and can be used to examine dumpfiles from any of those systems.
3. The crash command "callout" (show callout table) was added in UnixWare
7.1.0. SLS ptf7407b made it available for use on earlier releases of
UnixWare 7. The crash command "kmahist" (kernel memory allocator history)
is also available but this command is only useful on specially instrumented
kernels, not on the standard releases. crash command "check" (used for
kernel text corruption) was added in SLS ptf7407b.
4. Installation of osmp after update701 or update710, which left the system
with the wrong (UnixWare 7) version of crash even when the update was
   correctly reapplied, was corrected.
5. Problems were addressed with several crash commands. In particular,
the "resmgr" command did not show beyond KEY 15.
SLS ptf7407c additionally addresses these issues:
6. The crash command "page pageaddr" problem was corrected. This command
used to give memory faults on the aforementioned syntax. Also "od -fpage"
was fixed, which did not allow for 24-bitfields. The abbreviation
"-fstruct:field--" is added to mean "-fstruct:field-field".
7. Display of "dispq" under ccNUMA was corrected; there are now certain
extra headers while displaying the "dispq"s. Only those "dispq"s that
have one or more lwps to run are displayed. The lwp addresses shown are
obscure but more intelligible than before.
8. Certain Memory and page-related problems were fixed. Among them is the
"as" command. It now shows the address space pointer "ASP" in place of
the incorrect "WSS". The "kvmstat" command script was added.
9. Certain problems in determining cdfs inodes were corrected. The problems
corresponding to the "inode" and "sinode" commands were fixed. Size is
included in non-full info; sfs full info shows ufs-like full info. The
"proc" command was enhanced to allow "paul_fld" argument. Fur blocklog_
symname and bswap fixes were also incorporated. Fixes to update the
default information for process context when a user provides the input
   were also done.
Note: This supplement has been superseded by the UnixWare
7.1.1 Maintenance Pack for UnixWare 7.1.1 only

For: UnixWare 7.1.0
            Date posted: 21-MAY-99
Description: This SLS corrects these problems:
 1. acctsh(1M)'s daily "LAST LOGIN" report could never advance
from a 99-MM-DD login to a 00-MM-DD login, fixed and sorted. However,
00-00-00 accounts that never logged in are now omitted.
 2. clock(1tcl) scan interpreted YY 00-68 as 19YY. It now interprets

  SLS ptf7215b: iasy Driver Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.0.1
            Date posted: 07-APR-00
Description: This SLS addresses the following problems:
 1. The 'TCSETAW' ioctl hangs if an XOFF character has been received
on the serial port. The hang occurs if an XOFF character is received
as the last data is being SENT. If an unanswered XOFF is received
(an XON is not received) just before the ioctl (fd, TCSETAW, &term)
command is issued, the TCSETAW function will never complete.
 2. When accessing a standard COM1 onboard serial port at greater
than 19200 baud, a loss of characters can be seen. This has been
seen with both hardware flow control and software flow control enabled.

            Patch

For: UnixWare 7.0.1
            Date posted: 26-APR-99
Description: This SLS addresses a problem where the system cannot

              returns this message:
Error determining if this is the correct diskette

            Date posted: 08-MAR-00
Description: This SLS addresses the following problems:
 1. A client/server program that uses socketpair(3) and uses this
to write/read data and do I_SENDFD/I_RECVFD, can fail with EINVAL
              on read.
 2. There is a problem in UnixWare 7.0.0 and 7.0.1 where data loss
may occur if a unix domain socket is closed while there is still
data in transit. With SLS ptf7080c installed, closure of the socket

Description: This SLS addresses these issues:

1. Resolves a panic when the tape device is used in variable
   length block mode.
The problem was seen to occur with Legato Networker Backup software due
to Legato using variable length blocks to a specific tape device. The panic
could also be reproduced by using tar to one of these tape devices with
   variable blocking enabled.
The Panther tape library related to this issue is a Robotic tape library
unit that uses DLT tape units. The actual make was a Storagetek 9710/30
with four DLT7000 drives. The drive was connected via a Qlogic HBA.
2. If the tape driver is interrupted then it is possible to be locked
out of the tape driver forever (the device is reported as being busy).
When a command, such as 'cpio -itvI /dev/rmt/ctape1' was aborted by
pressing DEL or CTRL C, the tape device then refused to respond any
further with 'device busy' on st01open(). As a temporary workaround,
'modadmin -U st01' restored the device to normal working operation.
3. Tape command timeouts were not configurable. Support for the pdi_timeout
interface has been added. This is now configurable via the Space.c file.
4. Reading DAT tapes with block sizes other than those with which they
were written can lead to incorrect data being returned.
The problem was originally found when trying to restore data using
Legato, using 128k blocks. The root issue was found to be related to
st01 and the handling of residual data (resulting from the read of
only part of a larger tape block). This area of code has been changed
to give consistent behavior under such conditions.
5. Removed potential of target drivers causing kma corruption. st01 (tape)
sc01 (cdrom) mc01 (medium changer) are all replaced with this SLS.
Equivalent fixes for sd01 (disk) will be supplied in ptf7002j (or greater)
for UnixWare 7.0.0 and in ptf7036e (or greater) for UnixWare 7.0.1.
6. SLS ptf7074 supersedes ptf7059a and therefore incorporates the mc01
driver fix supplied by ptf7059a. This corrects an error that may be
encountered when attempting to load a tape into a DLT library. The
   error message is similar to:
UX: mccntl: ERROR: MC_MOVE_MEDIUM failed on device /dev/mc/mc1
WARNING: Medium Changer Driver: HA 4 TC 6 LU 0 - CHECK CONDITION
unix: A "ILLEGAL REQUEST" condition has been detected
unix: Additional data = "INVALID FIELD IN CDB"
7. tapecntl -c n /dev/rmt/ntape1 (where n is 0 to 3) does not control
   compression.

SLS ptf7073c: UnixWare passwd and login Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.0.0, 7.0.1
            Date posted: 01-MAY-00
Description: This SLS resolves the following problems:

1. With SLS ptf7073c, passwd(1) is not vulnerable to a known buffer overflow.
Previously, when a long command line argument was selected, it could overrun
buffers because of a lack of bounds checking.

2. Addresses a security vulnerability in the localization code in libc.
Note: For the complete resolution to this problem, the libc SLS for the
specific UnixWare 7 release also needs to be installed on the system:
    For UnixWare 7.0.0 - SLS ptf7003i
    For UnixWare 7.0.1 - SLS ptf7051f
3. passwd -sa can display incorrect information about the status of passwords.
For example, passwd -sa may list users as locked (LK) when they are
   unlocked.
New to SLS ptf7073c:
4. When logging into accounts, which are configured with "Force the user to
change the password at the next login", a login to these accounts is not
possible if the ttymon is configured with PPP support (-P option to
   ttyadm).

  SLS ptf7071a: io Driver Patch

For: UnixWare 7.0.0 with UnixWare 7 Release Supplement installed
            Date posted: 12-FEB-99
Description: This SLS corrects a problem where, if a system with
more than 4Gb of physical memory is configured to use the memory
above 4Gb, there may be random memory corruption. This is due to
the way 36-bit physical addresses are handled in the io driver.

SLS ptf7070a: UnixWare 7 Panic Dump Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.0.0 with UnixWare 7 Release Supplement installed
      UnixWare 7.0.1
            Date posted: 19-FEB-99
 Description:
This SLS includes modifications to allow tape media size and I/O
chunk size to be configurable to help in the transfer of panic dumps
              to and from backup devices.
SLS PTF7070A also enhances dumpcheck and dumpsave to allow an
administrator to configure dumpcheck so that it checks for crash
dump images on chosen devices. This is done by introducing a new
file called /etc/dumptab which has the same syntax as /etc/swaptab.s.

            Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.0.1
UnixWare 7.0.0 with UnixWare 7 Release Supplement installed
            Date posted: 25-JUN-99
Description: This SLS delivers full support for incompatibility
definitions between pkgadd format supplements. The checking of incompatibility
definitions specified in 'depend' files was previously performed
only for the package being installed. SLS PTF7068C extends this
process to include re-checking of the 'depend' definitions for packages
already installed on the system. Any packages declaring an incompatibility
with the package being installed will cause the installation to
              be terminated.

  SLS ptf7058d: UnixWare mccntl Supplement

For: UnixWare 7.0.0 - 7.1.1
            Date posted: 31-JUL-00
Description: This SLS provides the following corrections and enhancement:

(1) mccntl -s was fixed, which previously reported back an incorrect
number of storage slots when used with a tape library.
(2) A new argument is provided, -t, that enables the user to specify
which tape drive to use on tape library devices that contain more
than one drive. The -t argument is used as follows:
                mccntl -t
The first tape drive is 1. Subsequent tape drives are numbered
    consecutively.
(3) mccntl -e was fixed, which previously failed with an invalid drive
address message. The reported error message is:
ERROR: Invalid source element 241, valid range 1-8

  SLS ptf7053d: UnixWare 7 netcfg & Serial
            Manager Patch

For: UnixWare 7.0.1
            Date posted: 14-OCT-99
Description: This SLS provides solutions for all of the problems
              listed below.

These problems were also addressed by previous versions of ptf7053:
1. Changing views occasionally hangs - this has been fixed.
Serial Manager no longer sets the PPP flag for modems.
2. netcfg failed to check that query scripts existed before attempting
to execute them. This could result in one or more of the following
   error messages:
        NETCFG(SendRequest) Backend script error
Network Configuration Manager error exit code 134
Error on trying to run scoadmin from the gui, console:
        Error netcfg already running
3. A mechanism is provided for third-party serial ports to use different
device nodes than those previously enforced by the Serial Manager.
This requires thatthe vendor supply a Stanza file as part of their
   driver installation.
SLS ptf7053d addresses this additional problem:
4. Unconfiguring the network adapter that is assigned to the system
nodename would result in removal of the /etc/hosts entry for the
nodename. This may result in a variety of symptoms, such as error
   pop-up windows when starting CDE.

SLS ptf7051f: UnixWare 7.0.1 libc Patch

For: UnixWare 7.0.1
            Date posted: 01-MAY-00
Description: This SLS corrects these known problems with the libc
              library on UnixWare 7.0.1:

   1. Certain functions are not available in the dynamic version of libc,
and this prevents an application's own shared libraries from using
these functions. SLS ptf7051f moves the following functions into
the dynamic version of libc: ecvt, fcvt, fstat32, fstat64, lstat32,
      lstat64, stat32, stat64, and syscall.
   2. The JDK java.net.Socket constructor does not throw an exception
when the socket connection fails under certain conditions.
Note: This SLS only partially addresses problem #2 above. If you are using
SCO JDK 1.1.3w, you also need ptf7096 (STREAMS). If you are using
SCO JDK 1.1.3u, you need ptf7096 (STREAMS) and ptf7122b (JDK).
To verify which version of the JDK you have, run "pkginfo -l jdk113"
and look at the VERSION field in the output. The latest version of
the JDK can be downloaded from:
             http://www.sco.com/java
A fix for problem #2 also exists for SCO UnixWare 2.1.3 in SLS ptf4026d.
   3. The select function does not support more than 64 sockets. An attempt
to use more than 64 sockets in a call to select returns with an EBADF
      error.
This symptom may manifest itself in different ways, depending on the
      application.
For example, while running a RealNetworks Internet Server the following
      behavior may be encountered:
             - All client connections are dropped once a threshold
has been reached, usually around 60-70 connections.
             - An unexpected limitation of the number of clients
that can connect may be reached. In some cases the
more recent connections may appear to hang.
Symptoms similar to the ones listed may be addressed by SLS ptf7051f.
   4. A "bad file number" error message may be returned by select after the
descriptor is closed. This has been corrected through modifications to
select(3C). select(3C) will now only send an exception if one is
      requested.
New in SLS ptf7051f:
   5. The pt.c functions have been enhanced to support up to 99999 ptys.
Previously, the Unix98 pty support routines could not allow more than
999 ptys to be allocated by a user process.
   6. SLS ptf7051f addresses a security vulnerability in the localization
      code in libc.
Note: SLS ptf7073c must also be installed for a complete solution
            to this issue.

such as the inability to boot the system after an installation.
 - Command timeout messages are displayed while using ARCserve.
These may be followed by a system panic.

SLS ptf7038c: UnixWare 7.0.1 Patch for Multiple
            Drivers, Autopush and Header Files

For: UnixWare 7.0.1
            Date posted: 18-DEC-98
 Description:

This SLS addresses these problems:
     1. If a system with more than 4Gb of physical memory is configured to
use the memory above 4Gb, there may be random memory corruption.
This is due to the way 36-bit physical addresses are handled
        in the io driver.
     2. Autopush does not work for ddi8 streams drivers.
     3. linkcycle() does not return unique major numbers from ddi8 drivers.
     4. Multi-threaded applications using the socket interface do not allow
        the receive thread to exit.
     5. Syslogd misses cmn_err messages at panic.
     6. The system hangs waiting for putbuf_lock when handling NMI.
     7. init 6, 0 hangs system with SLS ptf7038b installed
ptf7038c has been removed and is superseded by ptf7096.
SLS ptf7037a: UnixWare 7.0.1 MP Mem Driver
            Patch

For: UnixWare 7.0.1
            Date posted: 28-OCT-98
Description: This SLS addresses a problem where systems with more
than 4GB of physical memory which are configured to use the memory
above 4GB, may suffer from random memory corruption. This problem
is due to the way 36-bit physical addresses are handled in the mem
driver. The potential effects of such memory corruption include
data corruption and system panics. SLS ptf703a7 corrects the handling
of 36-bit physical addresses in the mem driver.

  SLS ptf7010d: UnixWare 7 networking
            inet driver

For: UnixWare 7.0.0 with UnixWare 7 Release Supplement installed
            Date posted: 10-JAN-00
Description: This SLS addresses these issues:

1. Heavy activity on a web server (Netscape or Apache) can cause
the server process to hang. This SLS corrects the handling of
   incoming TCP connections.
2. A streams leak in the tcp driver which could result in process hangs
   was fixed.
3. Enhancement to provide gratuitous arp functionality (-i option).
For complete support of gratuitous arp, ptf7084a must also be installed.
The documentation for this new option is provided:
                                  arp(1Mtcp)
   -i interface_name target_ipaddr
Send an ARP request, avoiding the cache, on the specified
interface interface_name (for example, net0). In the
broadcast request, the sender's IP address is that of the
interface, the sender's hardware address (MAC address) is
that of the interface, and the target IP address is that
          specified by target_ipaddr.
On interfaces with aliased IP addresses (see
ifconfig(1Mtcp)), a separate ARP request is broadcast for
each alias address with the sender's IP address set to the
alias address. As generally used, the sender expects the
host with the target IP address to respond with an ARP reply
          containing its hardware address.
If the sender and target IP addresses are identical, a
gratuitous ARP request is broadcast. This allows other
hosts on the network to update their cache entries for the
sender's IP address with the hardware address contained
in the request. No reply is expected. If an interface has
been configured with several alias IP addresses, a separate
gratuitous ARP request must be issued for each IP address
which needs to notify its corresponding hardware address to
          the network.
