About UnixWare 7.1.4
UnixWare 7.1.4 Small Business Edition
The UnixWare 7.1.4 Small Business Edition (SBE) is the new Edition for customers that need a full-featured, low cost server platform for supporting edge of network services or as a file and print server. It is configured and priced to meet a wide range of needs, including support for a small business or for low budget pilot projects that need to quickly scale up to production if the pilot is successful. The Small Business Edition contains all of the same performance, reliability and scalability features that you have come to expect from UnixWare, and is packaged with a single user and 1 GB of memory. Like all the UnixWare Editions, additional users and memory can be added to the SBE. However, when customers consider licensing additional resources for the SBE, they may find it more economical to “cross-grade” to a Business Edition instead of licensing additional resources for the SBE.

New Installation of UnixWare 7.1.4 as well as upgrades immediately benefit from the additional value in UnixWare 7.1.4
Enhanced Security Services
The enhanced security features ensure secure transmission of information over the internet, and protect your internal network from outside intrusion. IPSEC has been added to provide VPN services and OpenSSL and OpenSSH are updated for secure transmission over the internet.
Security enhancements have also been included in Sendmail and FTP. With Maintenance Pack 1, Pluggable Authentication Module (PAM) capability was added to enable system administrators to define custom authentication procedures for various system services. Samba has also been PAM enabled in both the single and multi-byte modes and file and file system encryption support has also been added.
More Choices for Applications
UnixWare 7.1.4 application support has been enhanced with updated versions of Java and perl and the popular Mozilla browser has been added to the media kit to replace the old browser. In addition, the popular Open Source relational data bases PostgreSQL and MySQL are available in the media kit as fully supported options.
Installation Improvements
A fresh installation of UnixWare 7.1.4 is more efficient than previous versions of UnixWare. During installation, the system is automatically tuned for the number of users and CPUs. The UnixWare 7.1.4 boot process can be done above 8GB, and using PXE boot, installation can be done over the network. A UnixWare 7.1.1, 7.1.2 (OU8), or 7.1.3 system can be upgraded to UnixWare 7.1.4 in a single step, (though the upgrade fee varies depending on the release that is being upgraded from.)

OpenServer Kernel Personality
UnixWare 7.1.4 runs OpenServer applications (including Xenix applications) using the OpenServer Kernel Personality (OKP) function to provide customers with powerful, flexible and cost effective deployment options. OpenServer Kernel Personality for UnixWare enables installation and native execution of OpenServer applications on UnixWare. OKP combines the UnixWare Application Compatibility Package (ACP) with a full OpenServer environment to provide the highest level of compatibility with OpenServer applications (including Xenix compatibility). OKP is an excellent tool for providing UnixWare levels of scalability and reliability to OpenServer applications without undertaking costly migration projects, or for consolidating several UW and OSR5 workloads on fewer UnixWare servers. Customers running multiple Xinuos servers can reliably choose UnixWare 7.1.4 as the platform for consolidating workloads to reduce operating expenses for compute environments that require a secure, mature, and stable platform to support business critical applications.
OKP lite is included in the media kit at no additional charge and is enabled by copying an existing OSR5 image and applications onto the UnixWare System. OKP full is for customers who need a fresh install of OpenServer 5.0.7 on UnixWare and is available for a nominal charge.
